| Brigitte Lin (Lin Ching Hsia) is one of Hong Kong Cinema's greatest leading actresses. Currently retired, and living in San Francisco USA, she has starred on the big screen for over twenty years in action, comedy and romantic features. Some noted appearances in early works were 'Outside the Window', her first film which shot her to fame, '800 Heroes' (drama), 'Zu Warriors from the Magic Mountain' (HK action) with Adam Cheng, 'Dream Lovers' (romance) starring Chow Yun Fat, 'Peking Opera Blues' (HK action & regarded as one of the finest HK films ever shot) and 'Red Dust' (drama / 1990 Best Actress Award) with Chin Han & Maggie Cheung. Also check out, 'Dream of the Red Chamber' a HK classic where she first played a male role (thanks Stanley!). It wasn't until later in Lin's career that she achieved legendary status as HK's premiere swordsman (literally). Her role as "Asia the Invincible" in Ching Siu-Tung's 'Swordsman II' with Jet Li, Rosamund Kwan & Michelle Reis (all-star cast!) propelled her into International superstardom. She developed a very powerful screen presence, which led to future action roles in 'The Bride with White Hair', 'Dragon Inn', 'Deadful Melody' & 'Fire Dragon' A powerful screen fighter and wonderful actress, she ended her film career with two great films from director Wong Kar Wai. 'Ashes of Time' the swordsplay epic with Leslie Cheung and 'Chungking Express' an art house classic. It is rumored that Lin may return to acting later this year for a HK production. She has been quoted as saying she would return for the right part. Let's keep our fingers crossed. |
