| Brooke was born on Friday 14th November 1980, several weeks premature. She was given her break when she was ill and had gone to work with her mum, she was spotted by a woman selling children's books but more importantly also worked for a casting agency. She asked if Brooke had ever done any modelling work, Brooke was given a card and told to call the office. She took up this offer and first appeared in a Clarks shoe advert, and then continued on to do several others, whilst she was becoming famous she became increasingly interested in forensic psychology, and spent a summer working in a morgue. Then left do an audition for Neighbours, after several weeks of waiting she got a letter from Grundy saying that she had got the part. Unfortunately Brooke contracted glandular fever, she managed to still go and do some filming although various scenes had to be re-arranged, including kissing scenes with Jesse (Billy). She spent all of her 16th birthday in bed, with the illness. Her first episode was shown just five days after her birthday in 1996. Brooke is a keen surfer, and also loves horse riding. In February 1998, Brooke was nominated in two categories at the Australian Logie Awards, she apparently never expected to win and spent time, preparing not to be disappointed, she won 'Best Newcomer 1998'. In November 1999 she also won the People's Choice Award for favourite teen idol. At the beginning of 2000 she left Neighbours, however this episode was only seen by viewers in Australia in March and viewers in the UK in may, due to the production to air, delay. She has visited the UK, three times firstly in November 1998, when she did a full promotions tour, secondly in May 2000, for a planned six weeks to take part in a Shakespeare Roadshow and to do some light promotions, but this visit had to be cut short because she needed to return to Australia to film her guest appearance on 'Water Rats'. She returned once again to do a shoot for a clothes catalogue in August. What will she do now? I really don't know, we in the UK can only pray that she will go back to Neighbours. |
