| Melanie Sykes (born 7 August 1971 in Mossley, Manchester) is a British television presenter and actress. She first came to public attention as the bikini-clad girl in the Boddingtons Beer adverts with the broad Northern accent. Amongst other work during the nineties she also modelled for Berlei Lingerie. She was born of an Anglo-Burmese/Anglo-Indian mother, from whom she gets her somewhat exotic looks. In the last few years, Mel has continued her television career, including reporting for I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here!" and presenting "Eastenders Revealed". She has also hosted a variety of awards shows, including Miss World, the BAFTA's and the Q Awards, has presented her own radio show on Galaxy and previously hosting prime time Saturday night on ITV with "Celebrities Under Pressure" and "The Vault" She is the host of Today with Des and Mel (with Des O'Connor). On 12th May 2006, ITV announced that the show would be one of a number to be axed in a "painful, but utterly necessary" move.
