| Bare with this intro for a second, it will tie-in with Piper. My friend Carrington was casting a film for Big Woo Films and he said he couldn't believe the number of actors who submitted resumes saying they could ride a horse as one of their talents. Now the truth be known, possibly up to ¾ can't ride a horse but as an actor, when someone asks you if you can do something for a film...you say yes. Piper got her first film knowing this rule. The movie was Whiteboyz, a parody on the whole white homeboy culture and Piper was asked if she knew how to rap. The proper answer? Yes...and having said that she submersed herself in a two week crash course of hip-hop. Sure, you may never heard of the film, but it gave Piper her first big-screen credit and she began to build on that. (Note: Prior to this she had been in a short film called Single Spaced). Born on Halloween in 1977, Piper Lisa Perabo (named after actress Piper Laurie) spent her formative years in Toms River, New Jersey. In 1994 she graduated High School. This followed with a stint at Ohio University where she graduated with a BFA in acting in 1998. Perhaps this is what you get when you name your child after an actor...they somehow find that same connection. Throughout high school and university she was always in one production or another, some of them being Meet Me In St. Louis, Mame and How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. Her big year though was the Summer of 2000. Two films with her in leading role status were hitting the screens. Surprisingly, the expected results were reversed. The big budget Rocky and Bullwinkle (a totally underrated little movie) tanked while this Coyote Ugly film about a bunch of female bartenders was expected to do middle ground business, skyrocketed. Hmmm, hot girls, tight clothes, in a bar...yeah, that won't make a dime! As it is, Piper's stock rose considerably and she was already working on several new films. In 2001, her next film quietly disappeared, an indie film called Lost and Delirious. Already though she has Slap Her, She's French garnering her some solid reviews and she is at work on the big budget ($32 million) film George and the Dragon with Patrick Swayze and Michael Clarke Duncan. She's being held in pretty high regard in the studio's, a lot of them saying she is the next big blonde to come out of Hollywood, the rest of the world is just catching on. |
